Pensioners Encouraged to Take Advantage of Mobile Life Certificate Drive

The Accountant General’s Department (AGD) is encouraging pensioners to take advantage of its upcoming mobile life certificate drive to submit their life certificates on time.

Speaking with JIS News, Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at the AGD, David King, said timely submission of life certificates is crucial in ensuring that pensioners continue to receive payments.

“This allows the Accountant General’s Department to verify that you are alive and eligible. Life certificates are due quarterly and can be sent to you via email, through the post office or collected at our offices. Additionally, you can request your life certificate by visiting our website and selecting the option labelled ‘Status Portal’. Should you require additional information, please email us at info.treasury.gov.jm,” he advised.

Mr. King noted that pensioners have the option to either submit their life certificates in person during the drive or having a trusted representative do so on their behalf.

“We have partnered with Justices of the Peace, who are available on site to certify life certificates. For pensioners with mobility challenges, our team will go to their vehicles to certify the life certificate, making the process easier.

Pensioners whose life certificates have already been certified only need to submit them and collect their receipts. We encourage our pensioners to collect and review their receipts before leaving the location,” he said.

Life certificates can also be deposited in drop boxes at the Montego Bay and Manchester parish libraries, the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service in Kingston and at the AGD office at 21 Dominica Drive in Kingston.

Mr. King said that during the mobile life certificate drive, the AGD customer service team will be available to address any queries related to pension payments, the Sagicor health plan and the collection or submission of change forms for banking and address updates.

“Team members will also assist with any other AGD pension-related matters. Additionally, we will provide on-site certification of life certificates,” he noted.

The mobile life certificate drive begins on May 29 at the Trelawny Parish Library in Falmouth with subsequent stops at the St. Ann Parish Library, St. Ann’s Bay on May 30; St. Catherine Parish Library, Spanish Town on May 31; Morant Villas in St. Thomas on June 2; St. James Methodist Church in May Pen, Clarendon, on June 3; and the St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, on June 4.

The drive continues at the Hanover Parish Library in Lucea on June 5; the Westmoreland Parish Library, Savanna-la-Mar on June 6; Greater Portmore Library, St. Catherine on June 7; St. Mary Parish Library, Port Maria on June 9; and the final stop will be at the Portland Parish Library in Port Antonio on June 10.

Mobile Life Certificate Drive Convenient for Pensioners

The Accountant General’s Department (AGD) Mobile Life Certificate Drive is making it easier and more convenient for pensioners to submit their certificates.

The certificate, to be submitted once every three months, must be stamped and signed by a justice of the peace (JP), notary public, minister of religion, medical practitioner, school principal, bank manager, or parish councillor.

Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at the AGD, David King, told JIS News that the initiative was conceived to address the challenges some pensioners outside of the Corporate Area were having with submitting their certificates.

“Persons who were in rural Jamaica, some parts of St. Thomas, western Hanover, for example, were having difficulty submitting these documents as well as when they sent them by the post office, sometimes they came after the deadline. So, in trying to address that particular challenge, we decided to do what we call the Mobile Life Certificate Drive where we go around the island, specifically to about 11 parishes, and are there in person to process those documents. A person could just come to us at a central location, get the documents printed, stamped, signed, and submitted all in one day,” Mr. King explained.

Pensioners only need a valid form of government issued identification to get assistance during mobile drives.

Pensioners who do not submit their life certificates over a period of time run the risk of being suspended and having their payments halted.

“What we recognise with the Mobile Life Certificate Drive [is that] we’ve seen our suspension number go down significantly. A few years back, we had a very high number of suspended pension accounts. That was another reason why we thought we had to go out into the field to essentially ensure we reduce that number. On average, we see about 4,000 pensioners per quarter across 11 parishes,” he added.

Mr. King is urging pensioners to submit the life certificates for the current period ahead of the April 30 deadline.

AGD domino team makes history, eyes championship title

Tahje Wallen, captain of the Accountant General’s Department (AGD) Domino Team, expressed his pride and confidence after his team made history by reaching the quarter-finals of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) Sports Competition for the first time.

Their journey to the quarter-finals was marked by a decisive 49-31 win over Water Resources Authority (WRA) in their final Zone A match at Jasicera Park last Friday.

Wallen was pleased with his team’s effort.

“We’re thrilled to have made it to the quarter-finals. While I’m pleased with the accomplishment of my team, I’m now more confident that my improving team can now go all the way and claim the championship title,” Wallen said, reflecting on his team’s growing momentum.

“We’ve been working hard, and it’s paying off. I’m proud of each and every one of my teammates for their dedication and skill. We came into the match with a game plan, we stuck to the plan, and everything worked out for us and I am happy with that,” Wallen told the Jamaica Observer.

Wallen’s leadership has been instrumental in the team’s success. With his background in the sport, especially the educational part from years of summer camps, he brought a strategic mindset to the game.

“Dominoes is all about strategy and focus. We’ve been fine-tuning our game, and it’s showing in our results,” said Wallen, who is also a trained interpreter for domino competition.

The AGD Domino Team’s journey to the quarter-finals has been impressive, and they’ll look to continue their winning streak when they face the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining (MOAFM) on Friday at Jasicera Park, starting at 7:00 pm.

“We know it won’t be easy, but we’re ready for the challenge. We’ll give it our all and see how far we can go,” he said.

Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at the AGD, David King, told JIS News that the portal will make the administration process for pensioners simpler.

“The pensioners themselves can go in and access some types of information. The long-term goal is to actually utilise that element of MyPensionPlus for the pensioner to actually submit their documentation online, and from there they will not have to come into office,” he explained.

He added that leveraging technology is a key priority for the AGD, with plans in the works to boost engagement with pensioners via online platforms.
